Kouvola Innovation has launched a farmer group project aimed at developing production cooperation among farms in Kouvola and the surrounding region in the production of biogas and organic-approved recycled fertilizers. The objective is to increase the region’s nutrient and energy self-sufficiency, reduce the need for fossil energy and imported fertilizers, and strengthen sustainable and profitable agriculture.
In the project co-financed by Gas1 Oy, the focus is on advancing a biogas plant initiative starting from farmer collaboration. The goal is to assess the profitability of the biogas business as well as the environmental impacts and broader economic effects of biogas solutions.
Satakaasu, a project company owned by Gas1 Oy and aiming to engage one hundred agricultural partner companies, has initiated a biogas plant project in Kouvola. Following the initial development phases, the objective is to secure a site for the biogas plant to be located in Kouvola. After the site selection, a nature assessment will be launched already this spring as part of the upcoming Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, in order to advance the plant project as efficiently as possible.
The projects led by Kouvola Innovation and Satakaasu have direct synergy benefits. Their shared objective is to establish a biogas plant in the Kouvola region that utilizes agricultural feedstocks.
